David is Principal-in-Charge of the firm's in-house technical excellence and overall QA/QC programs. One of David's greatest achievements is being a co-founder of Vasquez Marshall Architects in 1995. Outside the office, David enjoys training for and running in local half marathons. He has also committed to playing less golf to spend more time with his grandson Jaxon. Growing up in Venezuela, David greatly admired the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva who was the most prominent Venezuelan architect of the 20th century and one of the great Modernists.

Rob is Principal-in-Charge of project design and management and is responsible for the firm's overall design direction. He has 35+ years of programming, project design and project management experience. Rob enjoys keeping up with current sustainable design concepts for his LEED BD+C accreditation and maintaining his skills in photography and freehand sketching. He leads the Design/Build Team pursuits in creating successful solutions. Rob draws design inspiration from Louis Kahn for his Perfect Balance of Light, Space and Materials and the Functionalism of Arne Jacobsen, and the Creativity of Bjarke Ingels.

Shelley has been part of the firm since it started. She is responsible for corporate affairs and personnel development. Shelley's greatest achievements in life are her two children and grandchildren. She enjoys cooking, exercising and spending quality time with her four grandsons. She is a firm believer in that all endings bring new beginnings. We may just not know it at the time.

Jonathan has over 27 years of project design and project management experience. He has helped lead the firm in new technologies such as BIM, Integrated Product Delivery, and Advanced Rendering Techniques. Jonathan has a keen interest in traveling to developing countries around the world to do volunteer architectural work. His other hobbies include snorkeling and teaching fencing to local youth.

Rob is an Architect with over 28 years of experience. He is a San Diego native who loves golf, ice hockey, coaching, and being a Dad. Rob’s keen interest in golf even led him to working a few years at a golf shop. His favorite architectural style is Japanese Modern, which is consistent with his favorite motto ‘Keep it simple and everything will be ok.”

MARCO BARTOLINI

Marco was born in San Diego and is a border native from the San Diego–Tijuana region, shaped by the influence of two cultures. He has spent time living, studying, and working in Mexico, Canada, and Spain, experiences that broaden his perspective and enrich his 13+ years of experience in both architectural and interior design–build projects, including commercial, residential, healthcare, and mixed-use buildings. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, watching movies, and traveling—whether exploring historic cities like Rome and Mexico City or the calm, nature-driven settings of La Paz and small towns across Baja. Influenced by architects such as Francis Kéré, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Richard Neutra, he approaches each project with a clear concept, always rooted in context, and with a focus on how users experience space.

David has over 25 years of architectural experience and has held positions on the Nevada and Las Vegas AIA Boards, the Chula Vista Design Review Committee, and on the Chula Vista Planning Commission. Born and raised in National City, CA, David enjoys writing lyrics and putting them to music, poetry, making new friends, new restaurants, going to the gym, and especially spending quality time with his two sons. He draws inspiration from Tadao Ando for his ability to blend minimalism with a deep sense of atmosphere, and his use of natural light and concrete to create spaces that feel both powerful and serene. He is also inspired by Zaha Hadid’s bold, fluid forms, and one of his favorite structures is the Salk Institute by Louis Khan.

A San Diego native who loves outdoor activities like camping, snowboarding, and scuba diving. Shannon loves to travel and pushes herself to visit a new place every year. Her love for architecture started at an early age when she was given her first Lego set, and the passion to design and create things grew from there.  She believes the goal of any architecture project should be to develop spaces that evoke new experiences and emotions. Her favorite architect is Tadao Ando because he is able to design complex spatial experiences while maintaining the appearance of simplicity.

Patrick Mallari

Project Coordinator

2017 BS Architecture, University of Santo Tomas, Manila

Patrick was born and raised on the beautiful islands of Micronesia, but he is currently residing in San Diego, California. His favorite activity is anything basketball, whether playing pickup, shoot around, or binge-watching basketball highlights. Patrick also enjoys exploring, trying new PC games, working out, and can quickly pick up any new sports. Professionally, Patrick has developed specialized RF shielding details for complex projects; and has consistently managed and delivered projects from schematic design, design development, to material procurement for multiple design-build projects in Micronesia. Louis Kahn and Renzo Piano are the architects Patrick admires most. Kahn’s work inspires him with its powerful interplay of light and structure, as well as his ability to create spaces that evoke timelessness and contemplation. Renzo Piano’s architecture is also inspirational with its inventive use of materials, focus on sustainability, and integration of buildings with their environment. Both architects exemplify how thoughtful design can elevate daily life and foster a deeper connection to the spaces we inhabit. Patrick’s motto is “True design embodies both function and purpose.”

CARLOS MATTEO HERNANDEZ CORONA

2020 Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana

Born in San Diego, Carlos has also lived in Tijuana and Baja California. He is proud to be able to work on projects both in the United States as well as in Mexico. One of his professional achievements is collaborating in the design & construction of Ojo Azul Winery Resort, located in Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico. Carlos likes spending time with family, going to the beaches along the Baja California coast, conceptual design projects, and gaming. His favorite architects are Jorge Gracia, Louis Barragan & Antonio Farre and his favorite design styles are Minimalism, Industrial & Brutalism. The use of concrete, metal, adobe and wood as protagonists is present in all his personal designs. Carlos’s motto is ‘Never settle. Always be ambitious & continue to grow.’

BRUNO NAVARRO

2019 Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana (Mexico) / Universidad de Malaga (Spain)

Bruno is a native of Tijuana and Baja California. His favorite activities include exercising, watching movies, and being at home with his family. When he travels, he likes to buy a souvenir postcard from every new city that he enjoys. Bruno is grateful to have the opportunity to work on both sides of the border (Tijuana and San Diego), describing them as very different cities despite their proximity, each with their own valuable architecture. His favorite architects are Mies van der Rohe and Tadao Ando. Bruno shares a strong passion for minimalism, especially because of how difficult it is to achieve. His personal motto is “Live simply but meaningfully.”
