Military Operations on Urban Terrain

This unique Training Complex is based on European and Third World urban pattern rather than the North American patterns common to other MOUT facilities. This facility will offer approach from the water for SEAL Maritime Operations and provide tactical vehicle assault training. Additional access to the site can be provided by air from the adjacent landing field or directly onto several buildings specifically designed for helicopter landing. Training facilities include twenty-six buildings and consist of a variety of building types, including a five-story hotel, an embassy, an urban open square, city hall, police building with jail, office, industrial, retail, and residential buildings as well as other site features provided for a multitude of diverse tactical situations. The design of these buildings incorporated a variety of training scenarios including repelling towers, many different stair configurations, basements and crawl spaces, hidden rooms, several different opening configurations, roof helicopter landing pad, special 'blow-out' panels, different site wall configurations, different roof configurations (skylights, mechanical wells, varying parapet heights, and roof access configurations), varying approaches to the city (narrow and wide street configurations, hidden obstacle challenges and burned out vehicle shells). Narrow twisting streets open into plazas, buildings are set at angles to each other to form complex shapes, and open spaces on multiple levels (i.e. roof decks, balconies, ledges) to create a full three dimensional environment that will help train soldiers to comprehend the issues involved in urban environments.
